Sales Engineer
PURPOSE: The purpose of the job description is to describe the primary duties, responsibilities and skill requirements of the Sales Engineer. Tasks and authority are encouraged to be delegated to the most cost-effective level. Responsibility can never be delegated.
DEPARTMENT: SALES
DESCRIPTION: The sales engineer is an integral component of the sales department and sales function. He/ she is an important support element of sales, as well as an active sales person. As part of the sales team the SE will be meeting directly with customers, reviewing specifications, researching, developing detailed quotations and proposal drawings and negotiating with customers to help close the sale. The SE must be able to represent ConQuip in a positive manner, both by report and technical savvy .
REPORTING : The SE reports to the VP of Sales and Marketing. No positions report directly to the SE.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Education
Required: BS degree or equivalent experience.Preferred: BS degree in Engineering. Two years of plant manufacturing experience. Some direct sales experience.
2. Skills
Required: AutoCAD, MS Office.Preferred: Auto-Cad, Solid Works, MS Office, MS Access, Computer literacy, Internet experience, machining techniques, fabrication techniques, web handling experience, coating, laminating,slitting, general converting process knowledge.
3. Physical:
Sitting and operating a computer for extended periods. Standing, walking and climbing to inspect customer equipment and take field measurements. The ability to manipulate and read micrometers, calipers, and other measurement instruments. Must be able to fly in commercial airplanes.
DUTIES:
- Complete quotes in a timely fashion.
- Complete quotes accurately.
- Seek out advice from accounting as necessary.
- Seek out advice as necessary from engineering.
- Utilize vendors for technical support and advice.
- Increase value of ConQuip services and products.
- Represent ConQuip in a positive way.
- Develop and maintain supportive relationship with ConQuip staff.
- Develop and maintain supportive relationship with supplier’s staff.
- Develop and maintain supportive relationship with customer’s staff.
- Attend company trade shows as required by VP of Sales & Marketing.
- Maintain accurate contact records.
- Regularly follow up on quotes and sales leads.
- Attend weekly scheduling meeting.
- Attend weekly sales meeting.
- Utilize support staff to improve own effectiveness.
- Occasional air travel (up to 15%).
- Make good value judgment.
- Be frugal with travel expenses.
- Complete expense reports within 7 days of completion of travel.
- Maintain accurate travel and expense records.
- Any duties as requested by the VP of Sales & Marketing.
PERFORMANCE: Performance is measured by thoroughness and timeliness of completed proposals and overall sales effectiveness.
