Engineering Manager

PURPOSE: The purpose of the job description is to describe the primary duties, responsibilities and skill requirements of a job. Tasks and authority are encouraged to be delegated to the most cost-effective level. Responsibility can never be delegated.

DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING

DESCRIPTION: The Engineering Manager (EM) is primarily responsible for the performance of all engineering personnel in the execution of a project plan. The EM will have input, to the V.P.of Operations, for the development of customer quotations in terms of technical and manpower requirements. The EM will be responsible to review the project plan developed by the Project Engineer to ensure all customer deliverables are met and the plan has measurable revenue milestones. The EM must gain approval of the plan by the Production Manager. The EM must integrate the plan into a production master plan. The EM is responsible for the development and use of standard components and assemblies, by the Project Engineers, in the project machine designs. The EM is responsible for monitoring, documenting and reviewing the performance of their subordinates. The EM is responsible for any necessary training and development. The EM is responsible for the preparation of a department budget and the subsequent execution of the budget.

REPORTING : The EM reports to the Vice President of Operations. Project managers, Project Engineers, Drafters, Controls Engineers, report to the EM.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Education
Required: BS or higher degree in Engineering or 5 years of equivalent experience.

Preferred: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Five years of plant manufacturing experience. Three years of management experience.

2. Skills
Required: Solid Works, MS Office, MS Project

Preferred: Auto-Cad, Solid Works, MS Office, MS Project, Computer literacy, Internet experience, machining techniques, fabrication techniques, web handling experience, coating, laminating,slitting, general converting process knowledge.

3. Physical:
Sitting and operating a computer for extended periods. Standing, walking and climbing to inspect customer equipment and take field measurements. The ability to manipulate and read micrometers, calipers, and other measurement instruments. Must be able to fly in commercial airplanes.

DUTIES:

PERFORMANCE: Performance is measured by customer satisfaction of completed projects, the positive or negative variance to the project budgets, and the performance relative to the department budget.
